Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Matin Imani
Veterinarian
Dr. Imani is the designated veterinarian at North Burnaby Pet Hospital. He graduated with his veterinary degree in 2014 in Iran and moved to Canada in 2017. Since relocating, he has been dedicated to pursuing veterinary medicine in Canada and completing his veterinary licensing process.
In 2019, he earned a Master’s degree in Business in Canada. He obtained his limited veterinary license in 2021 and has since worked in several clinics across Alberta and British Columbia.
Dr. Imani joined North Burnaby Pet Hospital in December 2022. Since October 2023, he has also been working as a mobile veterinarian in the Vancouver area. His passion is to help clients and their pets experience a stress-free visit while providing the highest level of care and service possible.
Dr. Vivian Collett
Veterinarian
Dr. Vivian Collett is a 1989 graduate from the Ontario Veterinary College. She grew up in Burnaby and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from UBC. After graduating from veterinary college she practiced in Burnaby and Port Coquitlam. In 1991 she moved to Michigan where she worked for the Michigan Humane Society as a staff veterinarian and clinic supervisor. In 1996 she returned to the Lower Mainland. From 2002-2007 she worked at the Burnaby Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Collett is married with two children and is the proud owner of multiple pets including her handsome young Bouvier Zach.
Dr. Karyn Hasselaar
Veterinarian
Dr. Karyn Hasselaar graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. She grew up in the Greater Vancouver Area and obtained her Bachelor of Science degrees in biology and kinesiology from SFU. After graduating from vet school she moved back home and practiced in New Westminster. She joined the North Burnaby team in the summer of 2012. Dr. Hasselaar lives with her long term boyfriend and three cats: Cheetah, Smudge, and Virgo as well as a newly adopted chocolate lab named Larry.
Dr. Cissy Yan
Dr. Yan has been working with animals as a volunteer since 2016 and was hired as a veterinary assistant at North Burnaby Pet Hospital in 2017 while attending the University of British Columbia and the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in Saskatchewan. She graduated from WCVM in 2024 and completed a rotating internship in companion animal medicine and surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) in 2025.
She has a special interest in internal medicine and feline medicine.
Growing up, Dr. Yan has always had a passion for animals and a particular interest in the medical sciences. Her favourite part of her job is being able to provide care and support for pets from puppy/kittenhood to senior citizens.
Outside of work, she enjoys cooking and baking, making costumes and props, traveling, and relaxing with her cats, Luna and Spud.
